Minutes for June 2023 Meeting

This meeting was held on June 3 at the Ft Christmas field and called to order at about 1000 AM by president Raed Elazzawi.  Approximately 11 members were present.

Minutes of the May meeting were read and approved.

The Treasurer’s report was presented by Doug Leonard, there are 39 members on the club roster.

Old Business

FSS7&8 had 11 pilots on Saturday and 9 on Sunday.  This F3RES event went well and the weather was good.

Mid-South event in South Carolina was plagued by poor weather and actually cancelled Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

A soil sample from the ‘power flying’ area was submitted to the agriculture extension service by Lee Bailey.  The results indicated a deficiency of manganese and recommended a schedule for improvement.  Lee estimated that members could make the first application in June for $200 and the second in September for $120.  Grass seed should not be applied until next year.

Bill Staley donated a barbeque grill to the club which will be kept in the barn at the field.

Mickey Nowell initiated a suggestion that the club conduct ‘glider days’ sessions with other RC flying clubs to generate greater interest in soaring.  Various options were discussed and more discussions will follow.

Engineering student groups from UCF have approached the club for assistance with their RC Design, Build, Fly competition projects.  An engineering professor has requested a more structured process where we can be more effective in guiding the student teams.  Raed suggested that we introduce teams to RC flying early in their design process and  sponsor one team pilot as a club student member who must become an AMA member.  Further liaison with the professor is planned before the fall semester begins.

New Business

No new business was presented.

The meeting was adjourned at about 1045 AM.
