In 1975, Stan Pfost (the fledging club’s president,) devised a very ambitious contest calendar to assist the local Florida soaring pilots to have sufficient contest opportunities to move through the LSF accomplishment program’s levels. He wrote a letter to all those interested soaring pilots to encourage them to attend the contests on the dates chosen. It seems that not much has changed in 35 years, as the Buzzards still rally potential pilots to attend contests to make it possible for LSF goals to be achieved. It is clear that the LSF has been a common thread by which participation has been encouraged since the creation of the Orlando Buzzards Soaring Society.
