Meeting Minutes for April 05, 2014

The April meeting was held at the Christmas field and called to order at 10:00 am by president Raed Elazzawi. 11 members were present.

Minutes of the February meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer’s report was not available.

Old Business

As reported in February, Orange County received funding to build soccer fields at the Christmas site.  Survey stakes are now placed around the area but actual construction may be 2 years away and so we can continue to fly from the front field area for now.  We have received approval for installing our sign, a porta potty, and a storage container.

Post and roof shelter – we need a building permit from the county.  Doug Leonard volunteered to create drawings and deal with the permit process.

New Business

Storage container – Raed located an 8’ x 20’ unit that might serve our purpose.  Club approval was granted to purchase this unit and cover other associated costs up to $1000 if this unit is suitable.

F3J World Championships – Three Buzzard members are participating in this July event in Slovakia.  The club approved a $500 donation to support the US team.

Sign – Club approved up to $150 for Lee Bailey for materials to mount the club sign at the Christmas field entrance gate.

Mowing – Lee and Don have been mowing the runway area.  The next county mowing is scheduled for May and we suggested that the open area north of the runway be included since that may become the next glider area.

Don Grisham mentioned the need for a plan when operating power and glider flying in the same area to prevent conflict as seen in other clubs.  Continued discussion is required as our field situation evolves.

Camping – camping during large contests can be permitted at the Christmas field as ‘dry’ camping only (no fires).

Meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:50 am.
