Meeting Minutes for August 02, 2014

The August meeting was held at the Christmas field and called to order at 10:00 am by president Raed Elazzawi. 10 members were present.
Minutes of the July meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer Lewis Gray presented his treasurer’s report.
Old Business
Mowing – Thanks to Lee Bailey for mowing the overgrown runway area. More work is needed to cut down and mow around the edges.
Storage container – Raed is still searching for a suitable container but decent items are hard to find at reasonable prices.
F3J World Championships – Raed spoke with our team member, Jody Miller, who reported a challenging but enjoyable experience. Our junior team member, Dillon Graves, was part of the Junior US team that placed third.
New Business
Field shelter – Doug Leonard presented some ideas for shelters that can be removed. One idea is a metal carport where a typical unit measures 18’ x 21’ and costs about $1500 plus shipping for a kit. Another idea is to use fabric tensioned to poles and Doug demonstrated the concept with an architectural model. The model showed how three square panels would look. Three residential grade panels measuring 18’ x 18’ would cost under $400 each and the posts would be around $50 each for a total estimate of about $1500. This concept was discussed enthusiastically and Doug will further consider doing just one panel with perhaps a rectangular instead of a square shape.
Tangerine – Raed mentioned that planning for this November event must begin soon and that help will be needed with hauling equipment and manning winches. The raffle would be considered only if Gordon is available to contact donors and run the event.
FSS#4 – Raed mentioned that FSS#4 is scheduled for 30 & 31 August at Kenny World in Ocala. The Pompano club will run the contest using our equipment.
Lewis Gray suggested that we send a get well card to Alvin Lee who has mowed our Oviedo field for many years. Lewis will bring a card to the field next week for us to sign.
Meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:40 am.
