   Good day and welcome to the Orlando Buzzards Radio Control Soaring Society. We are a group of Central Florida enthusiasts who derive enjoyment from the building and flying of model aircraft. The objective of the club is participation in competition and sport flying. Sport flyers make up the majority of the club. Members build and fly gliders and powered airplanes of all sizes \u2013 ranging from as small as 24-inch wingspan to some over 16 feet across. Some models take off of the ground, some are hand launched while others are launched with an elastic bungee. A fast-growing segment of our sport also utilizes an electric motor driven propeller to launch the glider to altitude.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guests are welcome, most flying activity is at the club\u2019s home field on Saturdays between 10 am and 1 pm (weather permitting)<\/strong><\/p>\n

These soaring machines are usually launched up to 600 feet into the air with an electric winch, or an electric motor mounted in the nose, to begin soaring flight. At that point the pilot steers the airplane to where he believes there are rising currents of air to keep his model aloft. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sometimes flights can last for over an hour and in good conditions even a beginner can keep his sailplane airborne for a long time. The pastime is challenging but always fun and regular contests are conducted for the enjoyment of the members and visitors. Most Saturday mornings members can be found at the local flying field flying and trimming their models.<\/strong><\/p>\n
